My one word for 2018 is Courage. For days I went back and forth between the words courage, faith, optimism and hope. All four words that play a significant part in my life and my growth as an individual and educator. But I kept coming back to Courage. As 2017 was a year of stepping out of my comfort zone, 2018 is a year of new opportunities that I hope to encounter and pursue. With that comes courage. The courage to continue to step out of my comfort zone and take risks. Risks that will hopefully lead me in the direction to grow in my career. With those risks comes fear and uncertainty of what the future may hold. Courage will play a major part in that journey.
I graduated in December with my Master’s degree in Educational Administration. My journey this year is to pursue that path. I am walking down a road that could lead me in many directions and possibly away from where I currently work- a place where I am very comfortable and a place that I love! But there is that courage again! The courage to get uncomfortable and face fear. The courage to overcome any possible failures and pick myself up and try again. But my plan is to Do It! My husband tells me that I will never know unless I take the risk and put myself out there! So that is what I will do!
The proudest moment I had on my graduation day was when I hugged my family. The accomplishment was not just mine but theirs also. They were witnesses and participants to the sacrifices and dedication made to earn that degree. Now that I have achieved this accomplishment I know that they want to see the successes that it will bring. Courage is necessary to reach those successes. The most successful people did not get where they are today without failure and courage to try and keep trying.
Today I was eating Chinese food with my kids and we opened our fortune cookies to share with each other. My fortune read- You are admired for your adventurous spirit
My daughter looked at me and said “Wow, Mom! That definitely goes right along with your one word for 2018- Courage!”
She is right and it finally became very clear and evident to me that I chose the right word for this year.
COURAGE
If we want to see change, we must be courageous!
If we want to grow, we must be courageous!
If we want to follow our dreams, we must courageous!
If we want to reach success, we must be courageous!
